ABOUT ME

  • The studio offered private lessons in Beaverton, OR from 2011-2022. The studio relocated to Peyton, CO in the summer of 2022. Being a piano teacher is a passion for me, and it brings me joy to be able to share musical knowledge with my students.

  • My education includes a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with a pedagogy emphasis from Washington State University and a Master of Arts in Music History from San Francisco State.

  • I am a current member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) with state membership in Colorado (CSMTA).

  • In Oregon MTA I held board and committee positions including district syllabus chair, state secretary, state president, conference chair, state website chair, and W Portland program chair.

  • I greatly enjoy giving presentations about various music topics to colleagues.

Tuition may be paid in one total sum at the start of each quarter or broken into monthly payments. Zelle, Venmo, cash, check and bill pay are accepted, made out to Selina Manson.

Families should expect a yearly increase in tuition appropriate to cost of living increases, expenses, and services offered.

Virtual lessons

Primary lessons will be in-person. Virtual lessons are available on Google Duo for the following:

  • Students who are sick

  • Families traveling

  • Snow days

  • Students who do not have transportation

  • Students living an unreasonable distance from the studio

Cancellations/ Make-ups

Please do not bring sick students to the studio. If they are too sick for a virtual lesson, we can schedule a make-up session during the next break.

Last minute cancellations (less than 24 hours) and/ or no-shows will not receive a make-up lesson.

There is a limit of 1 make-up lesson per student per quarter (fall, winter, spring; 3 per year total.)

If you are late to the lesson you will only receive the time remaining of your lesson.

Recitals

There will be two recitals at the studio during the school year. Dates will be scheduled at least one month ahead. Treats will be provided.

Materials and fees

Any materials such as syllabus books or sheet music that I provide for the student will be included in the next tuition payment.

Any festival or syllabus fees I prepay for students will be included in the next tuition payment.

Lesson day and time

Please choose a day and time that will fit your schedule for the school year.

Please do not arrive for your lesson more than 5 minutes early. If you do, please wait outside, especially if another student is finishing their lesson.

Piano and practicing

Practice is a very important aspect for success in learning music. Setting up regular practice time is necessary. Plan on 4-6 days of practice per week. The amount of time spent practicing varies depending on student age, ability, and length of lesson. We can discuss your student’s specific practice plan. Each student has a Google doc that will guide practice sessions.

Having a piano is necessary for practice. Keyboards are acceptable only for new beginners. Students having six months or more of lessons need a digital piano with 88 weighted keys and damper pedal, or an acoustic piano (upright or grand) for practice.

Discontinuing lessons

If you decide to leave the studio, please send an email or text message as notice.

Medical pause

If your student has a medical need to pause lessons, please let me know the situation. We can temporarily cease lessons and continue when your student is healthy and able.

Summary

By working together we can make music a passion in your student’s life. Family encouragement and involvement are essential to the success of your student.
